About
When Dave Mott and his wife Alice left Poole for West Lulworth, it wasn't only for the coastline. They moved because they believe Purbeck is one of the most special places in the country — and because it has the potential to become one of the healthiest places in Britain to grow older.
Just over a decade ago, Purbeck ranked among the very best areas in England for life expectancy. That's worth celebrating. But there's something worth striving for that matters more: healthspan — the number of years you stay active, independent and able to enjoy life, rather than simply the number of years you're alive.
For over 30 years Dave has worked as a Chartered Physiotherapist, helping thousands of people overcome pain, arthritis, sports injuries and mobility problems. Over that time he has become increasingly fascinated by the science of healthy ageing.
Many of the biggest factors affecting how we age are, surprisingly, things we can change.
Strength, nutrition, sleep, movement, stress management, social connection — all of them influence both the quality of our lives and potentially how long we live. And it is never too late to start. Whether you're 45 or 85, small changes made consistently have an enormous effect on your future health, independence and quality of life.
